Today I’m going to introduce a really powerful productivity web app. Perhaps I should say not only one, but a collection of web apps. Zoho apps is a big family of web-based applications, ranging from business apps like CRM and invoice tracking, to collaboration tools such as wiki and document management. I’m going to focus my introduction on productivity apps.
Zoho Writer – Online Word Processor
I’m a frequent Zoho Writer user. The advantage of it is the MS Word-like user interface and functions. No matter the tool bar and menu, you find resemblance to Microsoft’s flagship word processor. It can read Microsoft Word documents. Unlike other online word processors such as Google Docs that only have basic functions, Zoho Writer has almost everything you need to create professional documents.

Zoho Sheet – Spreadsheet on the Cloud
Again, this one looks and works pretty much the same as Microsoft Excel. It reads Microsoft Excel formatted files. Basic computation and chart creation are there, you could even find VBA editor and macro recording functions.

Zoho Show – Create Slideshow on the Internet
Zoho Show is a complete slideshow solution. Do think of it as a secondary option due to its web app nature. It reads Microsoft Powerpoint files, has templates to choose from, provides a wide range of transition effects. The end product could be saved as PPT, HTML, PDF and other formats.

To help you (and probably persuade you) moving to Zoho, there is a MS Office plug-in that lets you read and edit Zoho documents right in MS Office.
The Zoho apps family have some other members, such as Calendar, Notebook and Planner. These Zoho Apps are free for personal use. To try them out, you don’t have to register for an account. Zoho accepts log-in using Google, Yahoo!, Facebook and Google Apps account.
